Princess Beatrice is engaged to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The happy couple, who got engaged during a weekend away in Italy earlier this month, are due to be married next year.

They said in a joint statement that they were "extremely happy" to share the news and were "so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can't wait to be married."

"We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand for the years ahead, full of love and happiness."

The princess' parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, said they were "thrilled".

They added: "We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man.

"We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future."

On Instagram, Princess Eugenie congratulated her sister and future brother in law: "Baebea - wow! I'm so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo.

"It's been a long time coming and you two are meant to be."

Meanwhile, Mr Mapelli Mozzi's parents said they were "truly delighted", having known Beatrice "for most of her life".

"They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship."

The groom-to-be is said to have designed the diamond engagement ring alongside British jeweller Shaun Leane.

Mr Leane is known for past collaboration with British fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
