1 December 2019, 13:50
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a car hit three people during a fight on the Brighton seafront.
Police were called to Marine Parade in Brighton shortly after 5.20am on Sunday morning after a report of a large group of people fighting with weapons.
While officers were responding to the incident, some of the group are thought to have got into a vehicle which then hit three men who were involved in the fight.
A man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and the three men were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, two with serious head injuries.
The 32-year-old remains in custody. The vehicle was later found abandoned.
Sussex Police have said the incident was not terror-related and are appealing for anyone with information to contact detectives.
Detective Inspector Chris Thompson said: "This is a fast-moving investigation and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or has any information about it to come forward.
"Marine Parade is currently closed between the pier roundabout and Camelford Street while we carry out enquiries and I would like to thank the public for their patience."
Anyone with information is asked to ring 101 and quote Operation Danebrige or contact Sussex Police through their website.
