A delivery driver has been left in a critical condition after being hit with his own van.

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses after a delivery driver was run over with his own van whilst delivering parcels.

The 49-year-old driver was delivering at an address in Newbiggin, Northumberland, on Monday afternoon, when a man climbed into his van and proceeded to hit him.

He was left with serious injuries which required hospital treatment following the incident.

Officers were called to the crash on Derwentwater Road involving a blue Citroen Berlingo at around 2:45pm.

Police have arrested two men, aged 18 and 27, and they remain in custody.

Efforts are still ongoing to trace the van.
