A man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after throwing a pair of ferrets at a car.

The 25-year-old also allegedly used a carrier for the animals to smash windows and cause dents and scratches to at least a dozen other vehicles.

He was detained by members of the public in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, after the incident on Monday.

North Yorkshire Police said the ferrets are now in the care of the RSPCA.

A force spokesman said the man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Police appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
