A 25-year-old Polish man has been charged with possessing explosives and terrorism offences.

Golon Bednarczyk, of Luton in Bedfordshire, was arrested by detectives from the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism unit on December 11.

He has now been charged with the collection of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, and making or possessing an explosive under suspicious circumstances.

Bednarczyk, originally from Poland, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, Scotland Yard said.

Officers said there was no "immediate risk to public safety."
