Boris Johnson has revealed that TfL are creating 180 part-time jobs for drivers for the night tube service.

All-night running of the London Underground at weekends has been delayed because of disputes with unions over pay and conditions.

But the Mayor of London told LBC to get around this they're looking to employ hundreds of drivers purely to work on the night tube.

He told Nick Ferrari: "We're now opening for applications for the drivers of the Night Tube, you may be interested to know."

When Nick queried why they are hiring people when they don't even have agreement to start running the night tube, he said: "Because we couldn't get agreement with the unions about one package where we paid everybody, the drivers, extra money to do it without changing their overall working hours.

"We had a very good package. They didn't like that.

"We're doing a new approach, which is a no-brainer - can't see any way it would fall foul with our friends at the trades unions - we have 300 new part-time drivers for the night time.

"People who are existing drivers can of course apply for that - some of them have - and we've had 4,300 applications."

TfL later confirmed to LBC they actually have 180 part-time roles available for the Night Tube,.
