Why A 3-Minute Wait To Open Washing Machine?

Since my wife passed away I have to do all the house-work. I was wondering why there is a 3-minute delay on opening the washing machine door when the cycle has finished?

Answer: It shouldn’t take 3 minutes to open but it goes back to the 50s and 60s when they had the washing spinners and you could open the lid when it was still going round and people had their arm broken. They modified the regulation and anything that spins needs to have a safety mechanism on it. It’s to ensure it has stopped spinning before you open it.
