Three days after a quarantined hotel in China collapsed a man has been rescued from the rubble by emergency services in the country.

State news agency Xinhua said the condition of the man who was pulled from under the collapsed hotel in Quanzhou, is currently unknown.

Authorities in China reported at least 20 people died after the hotel collapse on Saturday, with just two people being rescued on Monday when a 10-year-old boy and his mother were pulled from the rubble.

Rescue workers are still searching the rubble of the five-storey Xinjia Hotel in the southern province of Fujian.

Seventy-one people were in the building when it collapsed and dozens have been rescued, authorities say.

The hotel in the city of Quanzhou had been a quarantine site for people exposed to the new coronavirus, which has swept across China and infected more than 80,000 people in China.

Most parts of China are quarantining people for 14 days if they are from high-risk areas or even travelled abroad or simply outside their home regions.

Rescuers at the scene of the collapse had protective gear and disinfectant to minimise exposure to the virus

The building had reportedly been modified illegally before the collapse.
